In ancient time , "Dan Shui" is the name represents Tamsui Estuary and Tamsui Port. It even refered to the entire northen area in early days. At first, "Hu Wei" was the name of the village. Afterwards , "Tamsui" and "Hu Wei" both meant the same place. Until Japanese colonization, "Tamsui" finally subsituted "Hu Wei" as the official name. Today, Dan Shui has become the popular scenic spot under the effort of the locals and government. Its unique geographical position and the historical properties are also very important factors. the Hu Wei Fort Park , the Hong Mao Burg , the Oxford Academy of Classical Learning , Ma Xie Graveyard , and Long Shang Temple , these high spots are the proof of the history of the area. Qing Shui Cave , Fu You Temple , Long Shan Temple , and Tamsui Church are the places that many people still come to look for spiritual anchorage. Tamsui Riverbank Footpath , the Lantern Main Road in Dang Jiang University ,Tamsui Old Street , Tamsui Mangrove, and the Fisherman Wharf are also the popular spots. Those are always the most crowded places in Tamsui. There are many famous delicacies , like A Gei , Gefilte Fish , and various snacks. Tamsui, probably the most well-know town in Taiwan, is suitabe for any type of the trips.
