Ever since the Dutch built Fort Zeelandia, Anping had been in the central stage of history for decades. Subsequently it was ruled by the Min, the Manchu, the Japanese, and by republic of China. Although the dominators has left Anping for good, they still left an abundance of historical sites. The Anping city is small but full with historic monuments: the first-class monuments such as Anping fort and Eternal Golden Castle; the third-class monuments like Hieshan hall, Anping fortress, Julius Mannich & Co., Wu's Grand Ancestral Shrine in Taiwan, Jieguan Kiosk, Zieshan hall and other monuments. While staying in Anping city you might stand in a monument and not knowing! The food in Anping is also alluring: fried clam, clam roll, shrimp roll, fish ball soup, and dozens of trueborn dishes waiting for you to taste. Under the contrive of the government, Anping now has set up "Anping National Historic Scenic Area". As both occident and oriental tide pounding Taiwan, Anping is no doubt the place to find the root of our culture.
