  Alor
The remote island of Alor and Pura lie east of Nusa Tenggara. They are not renowneddive destinations and consequently get few visiting live aboands. However the diving here can be pretty spectacular at the right time of year. A lot of cold water passes through narrow straits between the Island causing strong current and eddies. they also attract big fish that come in to feed such a barracuda, schooling big-eyejacks, dog-toothed tuna, monster groupers, and lots of sharks. There are noresorts here due to its remoteness but that, For many divers, 15 the attraction of diving Alor.

In the Strait between Alor and Pantar there is some spectacular diving. There are beautiful coral gardens, and step walls that are home to a wide variety of reef fish, sharks and large pelages. The reefs around the Alorese islands are very healthy with brilliantly colored hard and soft coral formations, and shots of colorful fish.

Alor is still pretty much in the middle of nowhere and getting there takes an effort. The three scheduled weekly flights from Kupang, the district capital, are often cancelled. The throbbing ferry is reliable, but takes 14 hours to get there From Kupang.

Alor is not yet part of the mass tourist circuit, and most tourist facilities are modest. travel sometimes requires initiative, a loose schedule and a healthy sense of humor to deal with the inevitable snags.

IF you are willing to fully appreciate the rich cultural life of Alor, leave some Flexibility in your plans. It is useful to be able to speak a & t t le Indonesian. it also helps to dress conservatively. please remember this is an area.
