Reog Ponorogo
Performances where the dancers carry a very heavy, ornamented tiger head with peacock feathers. This dance depicts a fight between a tiger and two noblemen on horseback.
Kerapan Sapi (Bull Races), Madura This is very popular sport and spectacle is held regularly at least twice a month at Bangkalan on the island of Madura, about half an hour by ferry from Surabaya. Bull racing is a great event in Madura especially the annual races for the islands championship which are usually held by the local administration after the harvest time in September and October. The finals are held at Pamekasan capital of the island, once a year. Special races can be organized, given three days advance notice.
Kuda Kepang (Bamboo Horse), Kediri A dance performance originating from the town of Kediri. Male dances falling into a trance ride on bamboo horses, and eat grass flowers, rice husks and pieces of glass. For further information, please contact the East Java Provincial Tourist Office, Jl. Wild Hog Hunt (50 Kota Regency and Adam Regency).
Hunt for wild hogs in the forest of West Sumatera using dogs for tracking. A sport of the village people in the neighbouring area. The hogs are hunted every Sunday, in Agam Regency and every Tuesday in Limapuluh Kota as they destroy farm lands.

In this traditional duck race, there are 10 ducks at each round. The winner is the first to reach the line.

Water Buffalo Fighting (Kota Baru)
An event held every Tuesday and Saturday by the people of the village of Kuta Laweh and Kota Baru located near the town of Bukittinggi. This event, a popular past time of the people, has remained popular through the years and is still held often. The purpose of this event is to held develop cattle breeding. Two bulls are pitted against each other, and when one of them runs off, it has lost the fight.

Bird Watching
A jeep from the gate to the Way Kanan Conversation area at dawn to take a quite look at the birds and other wild animals, and stay the night at lodgings within the area.

Toraja Death Feast
The Toraja dead rituals are elaborates feasts which hold the greatest significance in the society. The more elaborated the rituals, the higher the familys gratitude and esteem considered to be for departed member. The rituals begin with the taking off the coffin from the family house, accompanied by the tau-tau, a wooden effigy of the dead person. Traditional welcoming dances are performed for the guests an bull, cock and kick fighting (sisemba) are featured. The mass slaughter of buffaloes and pigs takes place afterwards. The final part of the ritual is when the corpse is taken to its final resting place in cave high up in the cliffs. A funeral feast for a high ranking Torajan often last for many days. Wayang Orang / Dance Drama
You can see the performance of some dancers dressed in traditional Javanese costume in Performing Arts Theatre every Wednesday starting at 8.15 pm till midnight. Gamelan, Indonesian traditional musical instrument, becomes the sound and music for this dance drama.The stories performed are usually taken from Mahabrata and Ramayana Hindu epics.

Ramayana Ballet
Unique and famous, this ballet is presented by 250 professional dancers at the open air theatre of Prambanan / Loro Jonggrang temple. The entire Ramayana epics is concised into 4 (four) episodes. January - Manado
A Buddhist’s ritual processionis held annually in the Chinese calendar month. This event highlights Chinese cultural performances, dragon parades, as well as various lion and dragon dances. |
| Grebeg Suro |
The event begins at 08.00 am. Other events are art and cultural performances, various contest and products sales. Javanese Muslims celebrate the Muslim New Year (1425 H) which begin on the first day of the month of Suro (Muharam). One of the highlights of the celebration is the 11th National Reog Festival, held in the town of Ponorogo. the central feature of the famous reog performance is the gigantic mask, consisiting of a tiger's head and fan of peacock feathers weighing up to 40 kg, worn by a dancer in a trance. |

A public holiday, the celebration of International New Year’s Eve is often celebrated with the street carnivals, fireworks, special entertainments and shows. In most big cities, such as Jakarta, Medan, Bandung, Surabaya and Jogjakarta, New Year’s Eve is the time for merrymaking all night long for young and old alike. Usually paper horns are blown to mark the coming of the New Year. |
| The Ceremony of “Numplak Wajik” |
January 7 - Jogjakarta
A ceremony preparing the Gunungan (cone-shaped) “wajik”, made of sticky rice cooked with sugar and coconut cream. Gunungan Wajik is prepared in the Magangan hall at the Kraton courtyard. The moment the Wajik is turned over on the big round wooden tray (the base of the gunungan), people simultaneously beat rice mortars rhythmically in regular cadence marks the completion of gunungan. The ceremony starts at 3 pm. |

Indonesia Open 2007 |
The Indonesia Open is an international annual golf tournament that has been held annually since 2005 in Jakarta. This year, the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open 2007 will take place at the Damai Indah Golf and Country Club, Pantai Indah Kapuk from February the 15th to February the 18th 2007. with participation from defending champions Simon Dyson and Thaworn Wiratchant together with Thongchai Jaidee who will definitely promise spectators an eventful golfing week. |
| Bau Nyale Putri Mandalika |
February-March
Kuta Beach, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Once a year, usually during the night of the full moon in February or March, for one or two days, “Nyale”—the local word for sea worms, cluster in Kuta Beach, the coast of Lombok. After performing sacred rituals and collecting nyale, the locals will indulge themselves in merrymaking all night long. Considered to be a delicacy by the locals, nyale is also a symbol of abundance and love. There is a legend involved with the appearance of these colorful seaworms. It is said that in the past, a beautiful princess called Mandalika was willing to sacrifice herself by jumping to the sea. Before that she promised that she’d return once a year in the form of nyale. |
| Tabuik Festival |
Tabuik is a statue of bouraq, or a steed with broad wings and a human head, with the head of a smiling girls, wings and broad tales. On the back are coffins covered by beautiful decorated umbrella.
Tabuik carried by 20 men from the city to the beach, accompanied by kettledrums in a spirit of rhythm. People shouted Angkat Husein (Lift Husein) the carnaval to keep the spirit a live.
A tabuik is not just a decorative statue. A rite must be performed when it is made. There are seven processes involved in the making of a tabuik, starting from Muharram 1st up to 10th.
On Muharram 1st, which marks the first process in the making of a tabuik, mud is collected from the river and wrapped in a white cloth, is placed into an earthenware pot and the pot is kept in a lalaga, a place measuring three meters by three meters fenced all around with parupuk-small bamboo pieces. |

Java Jazz Festival 2007 |
This year, Java Jazz Festival will feature Jamie Cullum, Austin Peralta, Eldar, Sergio Mendes, Ron Carter and Marcus Miller representing jazz from a wide stretch of generations. The presence of Japanese jazz musicians, from the master, Sadao Watanabe, to the following generation which boats Kimiko Itoh, Lisa Ono, Koji Goto and Yosuke Onuma, verify Japan and Indonesias fine relationship.
In Java Jazz Festival 2007, there will be live reports from BBC Music, J Wave Radio (Japan) and taped broadcast from Japanese broadcasting network, NHK. Furthermore, international media representatives residing in Jakarta, such as New York Times, AFP and Reuters will also provide coverage. Java Jazz Festival implements its signature public relations style to, among others, enhance Indonesias image in the eye of the world. |

Sekaten Fair |
Surakarta/Solo, Central Java (April)
This traditional fair is held annually coinciding with the Islamic month of Rabiul Awal or Maulud (Javanese calendar) to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. This fair takes place at Alun-Alun Utara (The Kasunanan Palace’s North Square) and is open for visitors day and night. Exhibiting lots of tourist attractions, such as traditional food, handicrafts, unique toys, etc. The opening ceremony is marked with the procession of the Royal Family to carry the two huge sets of sacred Gamelans from the Sunan Palace to the great mosque at the north square. Sekaten fair is concluded with “Grebeg Maulud”. |

Alun-Alun Utara Kraton, Jogjakarta (April 14)
Held during weeks preceding the commemoration of the prophet Muhammad’s birthday, sekaten begins at midnight. Two sets of ancient and sacred gamelan percussion instruments are brought in procession from western side of the palace square to mark the beginning of this ceremony. During the whole week save from Thursday night and Friday mornings, the two sets of gamelan are played continuously night and day. Accompanied by a fair at the square in front of the mosque where local handicrafts and items of folk arts are sold, sekaten ends when the two sets of gamelan are brought back again in procession, to the Kraton.
