Sumatra
The 5th largest island in the world and the 2nd largest in Indonesia. Sumatra spans more than 1700 km. Rich in natural resources, it is home to several distinct ethnic groups, such as the devout Acehnese in the north, the Christian Batak tribes around Tapanuli and Lake Toban and the Minagkabau in Bukit Tinggi and Padang in the west.
  • Adventures & Outdoor activities
    Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the largest park in Asia. Covering more than 7.750 sq km and protects more than 100 different mammals. There are also Mount Sibayak, Mount Sinabung, Mount Kerinci, and Mount Merapi. Rising from Sunda straits, the child of Krakatau (Anak Krakatau). Avid climbers are sure to find the 100 meter vertical cliff wall at Harau Canyon and mountain biking on Karimun Island in Batam. Golfing in Bangka Belitung and experienced swimming in the wolrd’s deepest lake Toba, at 450 m. Other spots not to be missed are surfing, diving, and snorkeling in Banyak Island, Semeru Island, Sorake Beach and the world’s no.1 surfing spot, Mentawai Island.

    Sumatra is also famous for its tiger and elephants and the largest concentration of elephant located at Lebong Hitam and Sebokor, South Sumatra. Bengkaru island in Aceh is home to giant turtles and green turtle. Get up close with orangutan at Bohorok Orangutan Rehabilitation Station near the village of Bukit Lawang in Medan. And don’t forget to witness the world famous giant flower Raflesia Arnoldi in Tebing Binjai, West Sumatra

    Religious ritual is still observed by small group and can be seen at Laguboti, in Balige. Batak traditional houses and relief are well preserved in Siallagan village, Ambarita
  • Cuisine
    Your taste buds tend towards rich, hot, and very spicy food then Sumatra is a gastronomic paradise. Cassava chips liberally smothered in hot and sweet sauce, and lemang, glutinous rice steamed or roasted in bamboo
  • Shopping
    Most traditional markets carry interesting knick-knacks where bargaining is a must. Brastagi is the place to find luscious tropical fruits and don’t forget to buy Ulos, the batak traditional cloth.
Jakarta
Located on the shores of the Java Sea, Jakarta is a bustling metropolis and the country’s capital offering all kinds of attractions, from museum, art and antique markets, first class shopping, accommodations, golf, food, and a wide variety of cultural activities.

  • Places of Interest
    1. The National Museum holds lots of collection of historical, pre-historic, archeological, and ethnographic artifacts and relics of various ethnic groups in Indonesia.
    2. Maritime Museum near Sunda Kelapa Harbor exhibits Indonesia’s seafaring tradition
    3. The Jakarta Historical Museum
    4. Wayang Museum hold the collection of wayang puppets from part of Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
    5. Situ Babakan in South Jakarta reflects the culture and traditions of Jakarta’s indigenous habitants, the Betawi people.
    6. Lying just off the Jakarta Bay City, the Thousand Island or Pulau Seribu is a cluster of island offering an array of activities; sunbathing, vigorous water sports, camping or enjoying first class accommodations.
    7. "Fantacy World" located at Jakarta Bay City, is offering so many attractions and entertainments.
    8. "Miniatur Park of Indonesia" located at East Jakarta, exhibits traditional house and equipments throughout the country.

      • Adventure & Outdoor Activities
        The coastline from Anyer to Labuhan in Banten, the islands’s westernmost province, is very popular as a seaside resort. Inland, Java’s magnificent mountain scenery is spectacular. The volcanoes like Gede Pangrango, Papandayan, Mount Bromo, the “sulphur mountain” of Welirang, and the rugged Ijen Plateau. Take a hike to Telaga Warna, a prettily colored lake in Central Java, with steaming vents and bubbling mud pools. Other spots not to be missed are Gunung Kidul, surfing in Plengkung Grajagan in East Java, better known as G-Land; Mount Semeru, Padegolan and Progo river in Central Java
      • Nature reserves With awesome Krakatau looming in the distance, explore the undisturbed wildlife reserve of Ujung Kulon on the southwestern tip of Java, home of the Javan one-horned rhinoceros. Watch thousands of migrating birds arriving at Pulau Dua Bird Sanctuary off the coast of Banten between March till July. Sheltering hundreds of tropical plant species of the world, the world renowned Bogor Botanical Garden.
      • Culture
        1. Old Banten which is 10 kilometers north of Serang was once the capital of the old Sultanate.
        2. Fort Speelwijk, the Grand Mosque of Banten, and ruins of the Suwosowan Royal Palace as the witness of Banten’s former glory.
        3. The Baduy have been cut off from outside influences and modernity for over 500 years, thus retaining the belief and customs of their forefather.
        4. Kampung Naga still performs purification rituals for their village.
        5. The land of Java preserves cultures of the past and present. From the west, treasure the Royal Palaces of Cirebon and moving to the east, the court of Surakarta and Yogyakarta have been patrons of culture, traditions and values which the Javanese have treasured for so many generations. Grand and elegant Javanese Kraton architecture guards priceless royal heirlooms and precious antique.
        6. Not to be missed are Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple
      • Cuisine
        1. The Sundanese of West Java is fond of raw vegetable eaten with prawn and chili paste (Sambal). Typical meal usually consists of deep-fried freshwater fish, salted fish or steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves (PEPES) accompanied by a sweet and sour vegetable soup (SAYUR ASEM)
        2. Towards the Central Java, tastes tend to be rather sweet and spicy as cooking uses a liberal amount of palm sugar and chili.
        3. As for East Java, many of the local dishes are flavored with the local delicacy PETIS, a dark shrimp paste.
      • Shopping batik and lurik
      Bali
      You’ll find everything you need as tourist in Bali, Sukawati Art Market, Ubud, Peliatan, Mas, batubulan, Celuk, and Gianyar are famous for shopping. Besakih, Tanah Lot, Ulu Danu, and Kerta Gosa will be perfect for your cultural experiences.
      Nusa Tenggara

        Looking for sun, sea and sand without the usual holiday crowd at Senggigi Beach, Tanjung Aan, Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. People say “you’ll find Bali in Lombok, but you wont find Lombok in Bali.
      • Nature reserves
        Komodo National Park on Komodo Island is the place of Dragon or giant lizards. An adult can measure more than 3 meters and weigh over 130 kg.
      • Culture
        Stop at several traditional Sasak village such us Sade and Tansang-Angsang. Sumbawa traditional village such as Tegel, Bajawa in flores and not forget to be mentioned Sumba with their cloth weaving.
      • Cuisine
        Make sure you try the local dishes Kangkung Plecin or sauted vegetables, and of course the famous Ayam Goreng Taliwang, grilled baby chicken with a special tangy sauce.
      • Shopping
        West and Nusa Tenggara are famed for their exquisite hand woven cloths. Lombok’s songket is brightly patterned. Look out for yellow on black embroidered sarongs in flores. Eastern Sumbawa is famous for its weaving of fine ikat cloth.
      Kalimantan
      • Adventure & Outdoor Activities
        Bontang offers fabulous scenery, perfect waves for jet ski, windsurfing and fishing. Derawan and Sangalaki islands hold an amazing marine environment, coral, canary crabs, green turtle, and pearl. In Penajam, Gua Jurong offers 13 linked-caves with beautiful stalactite inside.
      • Nature reserves
        Muara Muntai near Kota Bangun is the habitat of hornbills, bekantans (proboscis monkey). In the upper reaches of the Mahakam River, a 5.000 acre orchid reservation close to the village Kersik Luwai has around 72 different species of orchid, which includes the very rare black orchid cologenia pandurata. Tanjung Putting is one of the most important reserve in Central Kalimantan.
        And not forget to mention Tanjung Harapan, Camp Leaky Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center.
      • Culture
        Tenggarong in East Kalimantan was the capital of the ancient Kutai Kingdom. Every September, Tenggarong plays host to the Earu Festival, where Dayak from all over the province participate in a cultural festival with dancing, rituals, songs, and canoe races.
        Local Dayak house called lamin, umaq daru or betang are built on wooden piles. Tanjung Isuy and Mancong are some of the most visited traditional villages. In Lamandau, Central Kalimantan, hundred years old bentangi are well preserved and lived in.
      • Cuisine
        Local dishes in Kandangan, South Kalimantan, a sort of fish curry eaten with rice cakes and liberally seasoned with freshly squeezed lime juice. Try a high fiber fresh juice made of Aloe vera, typical of West Kalimantan
      • Shopping
        Traditional handicrafts are all made from local raw materials including precious stones, gold, silver, brass, iron, and a wide variety of woods.
      Sulawesi
      • Adventure & Outdoor Activities
        Places of interest to be visited are Bunaken Marine Reserve, Lembeh Straits, Togean Island, fascinating diving spot Wakatobi, Takabonerate National Park, Banggai Archipellago, Kapoposang and Selayar Islands
      • Nature reserves
        Lore Lindu in Central Sulawesi is the largest habitat for Sulawesi’s endemic mammals, such as anoa, babi rusa, deer, monkey, cuscus, civets, over 55 types of bats and more than 230 bird’s species.
        Found 150 species of butterfly in Bantimurung, Pasoso Island the Turtle Island ( Spetember to October)
      • Culture
        Tara Tara Village near Tomohon, Noth Sulawesi (see colorful cakalele war dance performance), in Airmadidi and Sawangan, there are pre-Christian stone tombs called warugas. Visit the ancient culture, burial sites and ceremonies of Tana Toraja. A pre-historic cave at Miasa Te’Ne has finger paintings depicting men and pigs.
        In Bada Valley of Central Sulawesi, see mysterious megalithic statues.

        Ujung Pandang is famous for seafood which is popularly served grilled on coconut husks.
      • Shopping
        Buy painted and carved woodwork from Toraja, intricately carved wood ar the valuable ebony from Sangir; beautiful Krawang embroidery, a specialty of Gorontalo region.
      Maluku
      • Adventure & Outdoor Activities
        Visit Kai Island, famous with the beautiful powder-white beaches, Halmahera, Bay of Tobelo, Pulau Prombo and Pulau Kasa Marine Reserves and Banda Island Marine Reserve fro diving and snorkeling.

        A paradise for ornithologists, Maluku is home to a rich variety of exotic feathered species. At Aru Tenggara Marine Reserve and Pulau Baun Reserve, see kangaroos, wallabies, bird of paradise, monitor lizard and crocodiles. Reach the 189.000 hectares Manusela Reserve on Seram Island. In Ternate, see the spectacular remains of an 18th century lava flow at Batu Angus

        Fort Duurstede on Sparua, Fort Nassau, Belgica and Hollandia are 16th to 18th century Dutch strongholds in the Banda Islands. Kedaton Palace, Tanimbar Islands, Morotai Islands was the site of WW II battles when it served as an airbase for the Allies the for the Japanese. Don’t forget to visit Tolire Lake

        Visit Dani honays and Baliem Valley. The two highest peaks in Jayawijaya mountain range is one of the world’s few snow-capped mountains that are located on the equator, Puncak Jaya (5050m) and Puncak Mandala (4700m). take a boat ride on Lake Sentani in Jayapura, situated 73 m above sea level.
        Raja Ampat and Wai Island Base Camp, both are famous for world’s best diving spot
      • Nature reserves
        Visit Bosnik on Biak Island to see the bird os paradise and Orchid Park. Manokwari and the Arfak Mountain are famous as the habitat of rare butterflies and insects.
      • Culture
        Museum Negeri displays Asmat bisj poles. Visit Doyo Lama Village around 45 km from Jayapura has megalithic monuments. West of Biak, see fire walking dances at Adoki Village.
        Sago Grub Feast is an important event that brings together different clans and also visit Baliem Festival held every August
      • Cuisine
        Sago is the staple of Papua made from sago flour
      • Shopping
        Asmat wood carvings are hot collectors’ item. The Sentani area is famous for bark canvas painting and sculpture. From Wamena, stone axes, cowry-shell necklaces, string bags (noken), penis sheaths (koteka)I and woven baskets make interesting and unique souvenirs.

      JAMU
      Jamu is a TRADITIONAL FOLK MEDICINE FROM Javanese kitchen, jamu is a pale yellow to dark brown liquid and traditional cure-all for anything from the common cold to rheumatism. Often sold by Javanese ladies carrying heavy baskets filled with bottles on their back, jamu even served in the most prestigious spa center.
      Tracing back its origin to 17th century courts of the Mataram Empire, jamu’s preparation is passed down through the generations. There are several varieties of jamu, such us the lulur made from rice paste, turmeric and crushed flowers, or the pupuk, a vegetable paste used to improve a baby’s appetite
      It is so popular that Indonesian’s drink the bitter drink (the bitterer, the better for you) like water and is believed as the key to health, youth and happiness.

      MANDI LULUR
      The mandi lulur or lulur bath originates in Java and was traditionally for prenuptial ceremonies. This exfoliation and body polishing treatment uses pastes made of sandalwood, turmeric, ground nuts, rice and other scented wood. The paste painted on body and left dry. The dried paste is then gently rubbed off, polishing and exfoliating the skin. This treatment is sometimes followed by a sauna, hot shower.
      A yogurt mix is rubbed over the body to restore skin’s balance. The treatment is completed with warm bath filled with scented flowers.
